Are refurbished gaming PCs worth it?

“Refurbished” scares people because it's a word that covers everything from a lightly-used graphics card to a PC someone flipped after a weekend. The part that matters isn't the label — it's whether every component was put under load and proven before it went out the door. A tested used RTX 4070 that's passed hours of stress testing will outlast a brand-new part that was never checked.

Where the savings come from

A big share of the price of a new prebuilt is the “new in box” premium on the graphics card and, sometimes, the CPU. Those are exactly the parts that hold up best when they're bought tested used or open-box. Reuse them and you can hand a buyer the same real-world frame rates for hundreds less. Our Bolt P2 is a clean example: a 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X and a 12GB RTX 4070 for $1,299, where the equivalent all-new prebuilt runs well past that.

What SC Certified actually means

Every component earns its spot before it goes into a build. It passes extended stress testing on its own, and then the finished machine runs a full thermal and stability validation — with a report tied to that exact unit. We call that SC Certified. On top of it, every build ships with a fresh, activated Windows 11 install, updated drivers, a cable-managed and dust-filtered interior, and a 30-day limited warranty covering repair or replacement of defects in our workmanship. Individual components keep their own manufacturer warranties.

When refurbished is the smart buy

Refurbished makes the most sense when you want the most frames per dollar and you'd rather put your money into a stronger GPU than into a sealed box. It's ideal for a first gaming PC, for high-refresh esports, and for anyone stepping up from a console or a laptop who wants real performance without overspending.

When to just buy new

Buying new is the right call if you specifically need the full manufacturer warranty on every single part, or you want a configuration nobody has built yet.
